Colonel Gerrard, leading the British forces, was killed during the battle, delivering a major blow to the British side.  Rao Tula Ram and his forces faced defeat but continued their resistance. He retreated to Rajasthan and later sought asylum in Afghanistan to regroup and plan further resistance. His efforts to gather international support for India’s struggle were significant, though he died of illness in Kabul in 1863.
